Camacho

Camacho År 1961 blev Simon Camacho utvisad från Kuba. Han hamnade i Miami som så många andra exilkubaner och det var där han startade sin första cigarrfabrik. Med sig från Kuba hade han en påse tobaksfrön. Tobaken, från en planta från Vuelta Abajo på Kubas västspets, hette Corojo och hade tagits fram av en man vid namn Don Diego Rodriguez genom att korsa Indonesisk Sumatra-tobak med en variant av Mezoamerikansk Criollo. Corojo används huvudsakligen till att skapa aromatiska täckblad och var en viktig ingrediens i Simon Camachos produktion. 1990, fem år efter Simon Camacho's bortgång, köptes rättigheterna till varumärket Camacho av en anna exilkuban, Julio Eiroa vars familj hade arbetat i den kubanska tobaksindustrin i generationer. Snart efter att Julio Eiroa hade förvärvat rättigheterna till märket flyttade han produktionen av tobaken från Nicaragua till Danli i Honduras där Julio hade verkat i tobaksindustrin sedan 1970-talet och ingått partnerskap med Bering Cigars och U.S.Tobacco. År 2008 togs märket över av Davidoff tillsammans med dess fabrik Rancho Jamastran. Under Davidoffs överinseende inleddes ett partnerskap mellan Camacho Cigars och Bayer Crop Science. Kort efter detta blev Camacho den enda tobaksindustri i världen som följer en strikt hållbar miljöstandard. Bland annat används enbart ekologiska och miljövänliga gödsel och bekämpningsmedel vid tillverkningen av tobaken till Camacho-cigarrerna och i deras fabriker håller man hög standard vad gäller arbetsmiljö och säkerhet. Camacho är också känt för att ta exceptionellt väl hand om sina arbetare och deras familjer.
